Chapter 10
Darius
I’m bombarded with questions, meetings, calls. Delicious Chocolates deals with custom corporate edibles. We create custom molds to brand premier chocolate. This means partnering with brands on both sides of the transaction.
Most of our suppliers are international. I travel to find the best chocolate since I prefer to purchase from the source and build relationships. Then the VP, Shyann, handles clients. I rarely have to intervene.
Returning home, to Texas, was always part of my plan. Mainly due to my mother and Charlee, but also due to the lower cost of living, the affordable real estate, and I think a minority-owned brand can make a significant impact. But what I wasn’t expecting is offers to remain in San Francisco.
I hear a knock at my door. “Come in.”
“Glad to see you back.” Shyann enters my office. I stand giving her a hug. “You look refreshed. Austin was good to you.” She brushes away a piece of lint off my jacket.
“Yes, it was.” I sit on the edge of my desk. “What’s this about a meeting with Mayor Ellis?”
“He’s been a client for years, and he heard about our move. He is pushing to help us secure a permanent location here with perks.”
I stand rounding my desk. “What type of perks?”
“He’s in town. Want me to schedule it?”
“Yeah. Thanks.”
She jumps up and heads out. Next is handling our Italian supplier.
Time flies. I catch up with Jack confirming our quarterly rate, then we plan to meet during my trip over the summer.
I grab some coffee. Now, with the fires out I jump back in reviewing contracts and returning calls. I’ve been away for almost two months. I’m floating from project to project. I stop to have lunch with the Mayor, followed by a meeting with our supervisor of production regarding our upcoming launch of holiday molds. Then I hear a knock.
“Yeah.” I don’t look up from my computer. We’re having our best year yet. “What is it?”
“I need your keys.”
“Charlee?” I glance at the doorway, and then the clock. It’s after eight. I run a hand over my face. “I’m sorry baby.”
“Look I get it. I went out to sightsee and realized I don’t have a key. Thankfully the driver knew the address here.”
“Why didn’t you call?“ I stand and walk over.
“I did.”
Then I remember, I turned off my ringer during a conference call. “I think the ringer is still off. I had an international conference call. Let me grab it.” I walk back to my desk. “Want to grab dinner?”
“No, I’m tired. It’s been a long day. ”
The tight set of her jaw says I’m in deep shit. I grab her shoulders turning her to me. “How pissed are you? On a scale from 1 to 10.” She opens her mouth to respond, I kiss the inside of her neck. “And before you answer, remember, I love you.”
She shakes her head.
“And, I’m taking you for a fabulous spa day, head to toe, on me.”
She rolls her eyes.
“And, I know I’m your mother’s favorite.
